LEITAT’s role in the SUMMER project is to study the potential, as high value products, of the mesopelagic organisms in the oceans. To do that LEITAT will use gold standard techniques to study the antioxidant, anti-hypertension, anti-cholesterol, muscle regeneration and anti-aging potential of mesopelagic fish extracts (high value hydrolysed proteins and lipids). LEITAT has an extensive experience in the study of the functionality of active compounds from different sources for biomedical purposes. LEITAT has a strong presence and valuable experiences in carrying out research under different international and national funding schemes including FP7 and Horizon 2020. Participation in 43 FP7 projects and more than 60 H2020 projects is proof that LEITAT has capabilities in coordinating, managing and executing of international projects.
